In Assam, during the first few hours of polling at least 20 percent of the voters “ exercised their franchise” and casted their votes.In the first phase of the elections of Assembly, in 65 constituencies, the fate of 539 contestant will be decided.
From 5 a.m morning ,in order to participate in the elections,in order to cast their vote.Voters especially,first timers and women were present at the booths of polling where Bhartiya Janta Party-BPF -AGP alliance,Congress and AIUDF were seen against each other in a bottle.
In Jorhat, in Debicharan Baruah Girls High School,Tarun Gogoi,Chief Minister accompanied by Dolly Gogoi,his wife ; Gaurav Gogoi,Gogoi’s son and M.P ; Deep Gogoi, brother casted their votes in the polling booths.
Voting was affected for sometime because the electronic machines of voting was not working properly as per the reports in some stations of polling centres.
“At least 20% voters exercised their franchise in the first two hours,” it said.
In the 65 constituencies, 12,190 polling stations has been set up for 95,11,732 voters that includes 45,95,712 women that was manned by 48,000.
In the state, along the Indo-Bangla border along the district of Barak Valley’s Karimganj,security is highest and across upper part of Assam security forces of central of 535 companies and in the 65 constituencies police of the state has been deployed in the northern bank and Barak Valley of two hill districts.
In the 65 constituencies, for first phase of polling Congress, AIUDF in 27, Bhartiya Janta Party in 54 with alliance AGP in 11 and BPF in 3, CPM and CPI in 10 each with CPI(ML)(L) in 6 along with 60 others of unrecognised parties and 13 Independents.
Tarun Gogoi,Chief Minister ; Pranab Gogoi Assembly Speaker ; Paban Singh Ghatowar former Union Minister and prominent tea tribe leader; Assam Ministers like Ajanta Neog, Khorsingh Engti,Gautam Roy, Sarat Barkotoky, Bismita Gogoi, Girindra Malik,Sumitra Patir are among the Congress nominees that are Prominent.
Sarbananda Sonowal, Union minister and Bhartiya Janta Party’s Chief Minister candidate; Kamakhya Prasad Tasa, MP of Jorhat, Prashanta Phukan MLAs, Padma Hazarika,Naba Doley and also Kushal Duwari,former ULFA militant from Bhartiya Janta Party are nominees that are prominent.
Atul Bora ,president AGP; Keshab Mahanta and Utpal Dutta along with Pradip Hazarika,former minister from AGP are prominent nominees.
April 11, is the second phase for the rest of 61 constituencies that will go to polls.
