GJM rebels may launch their new political outfit

Mamata Banerjee, West Bengal’s Chief Minister continuous efforts in Darjeeling to create a gap among Gorkha Janmukti Morcha (GJM) paid off when rebel Harkabahadur Chhetri , Gorkha Janmukti Morcha , MLA will start a new party Jana Andolan Party (JAP).

Last year, in September Chetri had quit the party.

“My new outfit JAP will fight for the betterment of the Hill people. We will also work for development of the Hills”.said Chetri during in 2011, in Kalipmong while addressing a gathering where Chetri had won Assembly elections.

Chetri also added when contacted that they will contest for the Assembly elections and to select our candidates there will be an executive committee soon.

The splitting of the vote share seems unavoidable, with a new party in the elections which will help TMC. Kalimpong, Kurseong and Darjeeling are the 3 Assembly seats where TMC is planning to field its candidates.

Chetri replied, when he was asked about for Gorkhas they will demand a separate state. He said that “Not at the moment.” They want to work the Hills betterment and right now this is their top priority. Darjeeling conditions of roads are terrible and crisis of drinking is also there.

Before demanding for a separate state for themselves, they want to concentrate on the civic amenities. Gorkha Janmukti Morcha runs the Darjeeling municipality. In Kalimpong, Kurseong and Darjeeling people are not very happy because they failed to improve adequate water supply facilities and road conditions. In the Hills, the 3 Assembly segments are under control of the Gorkha Janmukti Morcha.

He further added that Demand for Separate state for Gorkhas will also be part of the’ political movement’ but they want to prepare themselves in order to run administration properly and then press for the demand for separate states. He clarified that they will not fight with the state government in order to fulfill their demand.

“It is the Union government which can create a separate state and our state government has nothing to do with this. Naturally, we will not raise the issue with the state government,” Chhetri said.

In Bengal for upcoming Assembly elections ’Political circles’ feel that formation of Jana Andolan Party will indirectly help Mamata to take on Gorkha Janmukti Morcha.

Chetri is believed to be quite close to Bengal Chief Minister and used to negotiate the talks in between Bengal government and Gorkha Janmukti Morcha.

When he was asked about for the Assembly elections Gorkha Janmukti Morcha will go for an alliance with TMC he replied “We will decide on this later.” And did not ruled out any possibility of alliance.

In Darjeeling, Gorkha Janmukti Morcha is fundamental political force no doubt and might will face some kind of trouble due to formation of Jana Andolan Party. Roshan Giri , Gorkha Janmukti Morcha leader has accused CM that in the Hills in the name of forming boards of several development ,she is attempting to split the people of Hills.
