Invitation to form Alliance against Trinamool by Congress in Bengal

Invitation to form Alliance against Trinamool by Congress in Bengal

In West Bengal, for the upcoming assembly elections Congress officially invited all political parties to form alliance against Trinamool.

“On behalf of Pradesh Congress Committee, I am inviting all the democratic and secular forces in Bengal to join together in order to preserve democratic values and to establish the rule of law in West Bengal,” said Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury, Pradesh Congress Committee in a press release.

Mr Chowdry said earlier that In Bengal Left and Congress in ‘poll-bound’ at the lower level have an alliance and the high command party ‘is not blind to the state unit’s views in favor of a tie-up to take on ruling Trinamool Congress’.

Congress units of the state and CPI (M) are moving together to form an alliance. In last Assembly polls, Congress had contested in alliance with Trinamool that led to the dismissal of CPI(M) Left Front from power after 3 decades of rule.

NDA Government claims of development of eastern part of India including Bengal can be helped by the provisions of railway budget of 2016-2017.

In Bengal, Alliance with Left Congress’s first move?

For the assembly polls, Left and Congress in West Bengal are moving closer to form an alliance According to Adhir Chowdhury , chief Congress of state ‘democratic and secular forces’ are coming together.

“On behalf of Pradesh Congress Committee, I am inviting all the democratic and secular forces in Bengal to join together in order to preserve democratic values and establish the rule of law in West Bengal”.said by Mr Chowdhury last night from Delhi in a statement released.

In response to forging an alliance with the Left Front, this is the first official Congress response. Congress had send around 100 seats list out of total 294 in the state.

The statement doesn’t state ‘who the appeal is for’ and it had ‘sparked’ a lot of speculation. The alliance was called as ‘opportunistic’ by Mamata Banerjee Chief Minister and added that this will have no impact on her party. Sudip Bandopadhyay MP TMC,said that he asked Sonia Gandhi what is going on with alliance, she replied that ‘she knew nothing about it.’

2014 Lok Sabha poll results shows that combining Congress-Left ‘would lead in 99 of the 236 seats the Trinamool was ahead in’.

Joint Rallies have been conducted on the ground by CPM and Congress in the districts.Against the alliance both the parties are facing pressures internally. On February 17 and 18 a meeting was held by Central Committee, CPM’s highest policy making body ,the idea was not given any ‘nod’.

“Most want to stick to the policy declared in April, of no truck with the Congress and point to Kerala where CPM and Congress are in a direct fight”.

State Leaders have openly called for an alliance but the Congress high command has not responded anything to Left. On February 1, state leaders had met Rahul Gandhi on the Left front he did not commit anything.

However the two parties at the state level are planning and talking to ‘field public figures’,Ambikesh Mahapatra and Justice Ashok Ganguly for distributing cartoons on Mamata Banerjee, the professor jailed.
