3 ministers, 6 parliamentarians, and 2 legislators of TMC are involved in a sting that shows them taking bribe in exchange for favor to a company just before West Bengal elections.
From Mamata Banerjee, Chief Minister of Bengal Bhartiya Janta Party demanded resignation and called “the sting by portal Narada News fake and its footage doctored.”
In a news conference, it was claimed that the portal recorded the sting over the period of last two years.
The tape, which was made by the portal shows that in cash Rs.5 lakh was accepted by the leaders of TMC for the company known as “Impex Consultancy” as in favor such as lobbying. However the Tape was not verified by NDTV independently.
1 senior police officer and mayor from Kolkata including some politicians were paid bribe of Rs.70 lakhs.
Saugata Roy, Suvendu Adhikari, Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, Sultan Ahmed, Mukul Roy, Parliamentarians along with Sovan Chatterjee, Iqbal Ahmed these legislators and the Kolkata mayor were present taking the cash in the sting.
Subrata Mukherjee, Farhad Hakim, and Madan Mitra former minister,these Bengal ministers were also there in the sting.
Tehelka magazine, former employee Mathew Samuel runs the portal and represented himself as company representative.
The Trinamool said the sting is the result of the “dirty tricks departments” of its political rivals.
In north Bengal, while campaigning Mamata said that the allegations that opposition “should fight her politically instead of resorting to a conspiracy”.
In a video statement, Trinamool lawmaker and spokesperson Derek O’Brien threatened to sue the portal for defamation. “We are completely transparent. (Chief Minister) Mamatadi’s credentials are impeccable. The people of Bengal know. We are busy with elections now. So whoever has concocted this smear campaign, please go ahead and concoct your smear campaign or your doctored video,” he said.
However, any link to the politics has been denied by Mathew Samuel and it is merely “coincidence” that the sting video was released, very close to the dates of elections.
According to Siddharth Nath Singh, Bhartiya Janta Party Leader; Bhartiya Janta Party demanding resignation from Mamata Banerjee, She should resign immediately. “We have written to CBI for probe”.
With Election Commission there will be a meeting and sting will be asked to be investigated and therefore it will not be allowed by leaders of TMC who are involved in the sting to go for elections.
Against the sting, CPM reacted very sharply and called “state wise agitation against TMC”.According to Surya Kant Mishra in Bengal postponing of elections is being considered by Election Commission and “imposing the President’s Rule in the truth about the sting comes out.”
