Rahul Gandhi is the fourth generation of the Nehru-Gandhi family. Presently he is the Vice President of the Indian National Congress and also holds the position as Chairperson of the National Students’ Union of India and the Indian Youth Congress. Previously he was the General Secretary of the All India Congress Committee. Representing the constituency of Amethi, he is also parliament member. Currently, he is in the rank second as the Congress Working Committee member. Rahul belongs to a family who have held important positions in the history of the politics of India.

Youth politics

As General secretary in charge  of the Indian Youth Congress and the National Students Union of India (NSUI) in September 2007, he was appointed and he promised to reform the youth politics. In November 2008, in order to prove himself, Rahul Gandhi have held interviews at his 12 Tughlak Lane residence in New Delhi to handpick at least 40 people, who will advise in the  Indian Youth Congress (IYC), for transforming an organization that he has been keen to transform since he was appointed general secretary in September 2007.

Indian general election, 2014

From , Amethi constituency, Rahul Gandhi contested the Indian Elections 2014 and led the election campaign of the Indian National Congress. By defeating his nearest rival, Smriti Irani from BJP by a margin reduced to 107,000 votes. Out of 206 seats, he had only won  44 seats ,which is the worst performance suffered by Indian National Congress, under his leadership.  UPA, led by the Congress in electoral alliance out of 262 seats  had won only 59 seats which is worst performance in elections. Rahul Gandhi had resigned after the defeat, only to be rejected by the party’s working committee.
