Under the guidance of Allan Octavian Hume, which was founded in 1885 known populary as Congress , which is country’s oldest political party. It is among the major political parties in India and it works on the ideology Gandhian Socialism and Social Democracy. Congress is center-left ideology while BJP is right winger.

Sonia Gandhi, is the present president of Indian National Congress is the daughter in law of Indira Gandhi and wife of Rajiv Gandhi. Rahul Gandhi and son of Sonia Gandhi is the Vice president of Indian National Congress. Nehru-Gandhi legacy had passed to the party’s top leadership even today.

A lot of times in India , Congress has won General Elections. After winning 2009 elections, the Congress formed the United Progressive Alliance (UPA), as a Prime Minister Man mohan singh was chosen.

In the 2014 Indian General Elections, Congress faced thrashing, Out of 543 Lok Sabha seats. Congress had won only 44 seats.282 seats were won by BJP on its own, which was a big victory. In subsequent election after 2014, BJP had won the elections.

Election Symbol and its Significance

Right hand , the palm is facing right is the Election Symbol of the Congress. The election selected the symbol by the Indira Gandhi.

Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) is present in every state at the state level and is the smallest functional unit of the Congress. All India Congress Committee (AICC) delegates form the delegates of all the PCCs. In an effort to rule across India, Congress structured working had shown unity and strength.

Sonia Gandhi, President of Indian National Congress : In 1998 , the Parliamentary Chairperson of the Indian National Congress became the Congress President and till now the President. She has been the the President of the National Advisory Council (NAC), the In 1999, Leader of Opposition in the 13th Lok Sabha and since 2004, the Chairperson of the present United Progressive Alliance (UPA )

Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister : Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister had retained the post of Prime Minister for year of 2004 and 2009. After Jawaharlal Nehru, he was the first Prime Minister to have completed 5 years,a full term in office. Certain important schemes such as the Right to Information Act in 2008, Rural Health Mission, Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme, and the Food Security Bill in 2013 have been introduced by his government.

Sushil Kumar Shinde, former Minister of Home Affairs: He is in Working Committee of Congress, in the category of ‘Permanent Invitees’. He also served as party Leader in Lok Sabha and Minister of Home Affairs in the UPA-2 government.

Rahul Gandhi, Vice-President of the Indian National Congress : From UP’s Amethi constituency, he is a Member of Parliament , Chairperson of the Indian Youth Congress and National Students Union of India (NSUI).

In 2014 General Election , he was the Prime Ministerial candidate from the Indian National Congress.

A.K. Anthony, former Minister of Defense : He was the Defense Minister of India in the UPA government.

Digvijay Singh, General Secretary : He served as the former Chief Minister and is the important personalities in the Congress.
