AAP To keep 6 Names On Hold From First Candidate List After Volunteers Objection

AAP is reviewing its list of candidates for the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections. Twenty names have been cleared by AAP’s Political Affairs Committee (PAC). Name of other candidates have been put on hold because volunteers have objected against them.

The candidate list has not been made public by the party. Sanjay Singh, AAP general secretary and incharge, said that he will discuss the matter with party leaders.

“We are yet to decide when to release the list,” he said.

As per the party sources, names that are on hold now are:
Prof Baljinder Kaur, Women Wing president; Jagdish Kumar Bansal former IG, Giani Sarup Singh Kadiana from Phillaur; Kartar Pehalwan former wrestler from Taran Taran and Sajjan Singh Cheema from Sultanpur Lodhi, former former cop , Arjuna awardee basketball player.

The sources added that these people had certain allegations against them and the party will go through the same. Cheema has however said that he was a victim of a false campaign launched by certain vested interests. They wanted a ticket from the constituency after switching to other parties

He added that he never had any allegations against him and has a clean track record all through his career. He said that some people had given some affidavits against him but he had clarified everthing to the party. According to the Sources, senior leaders of the party were satisfied with his reply and his name will be cleared soon.

“There is not a single inquiry against me. I am clean,” Mittal told The Indian Express.

According to the Sources, Mittal was opposed by a senior party leader who wanted his relative to contest. Kadiana has land grabbing allegations against him, but he denied any such allegations.

He added that he will continue to work with the party even if his name was removed. In Delhi, PAC had met in a rush just before Arvind Kejriwal’s departure for Dharamshala.

For now, volunteers have suggested Five hundred names of possible candidates from twenty six assembly segments :
Mohali, Ropar, Fatehgarh Churian, Balachaur, Bassi Pathana, Sahnewal, Ludhiana West, Dakha, Payal, Mullanpur, Barnala, Dhuri, Ferozepur Rural, Faridkot, Kotkapura, Jaito, Malout, Muktsar, Fazilka, Talwandi Sabo, Bathinda Rural, Amritsar South, Ajnala, Tarn Taran, Sultanpur Lodhi and Sham Churasi.

PAC is supposed to have cleared legal cell chief Himmat Singh Shergill from Mohali and Inderbir Singh Nijjar from Amritsar South.
