Amarinder Singh, president of Punjab Congress said that all party legislator’s performance will be evaluated before nominating them to contest the 2017 Assembly elections in Punjab.
In Barnala, Amarinder Singh said during his ‘Halqe vich Captain’ programme at Bhadaur that for selecting the candidates, ability to win will be the only criteria.
He added that the party worker’s opinion should be taken before nominating a candidate from a particular constituency.
“You will suggest as who will be the right candidate for the contest and we will recommend him to the party high command and the final decision will be taken by Congress President Sonia Gandhi,” he said while telling them that it will be the responsibility of each and every Congressman to ensure their victory.
Amarinder Singh, PCC president during the declaration form sought from aspirants that they will not contest against the official nominees said that nothing is wrong in it, for strengthening the party, loyalty and discipline are pre-requisite conditions.
When Amarinder Singh was asked as to what necessitated the self declaration affidavit, he said that the huge response, the party was getting, everyone in Punjab expected Congress to form the government and as a result there were a lot of aspirants for party ticket.
He added that Congress this time will make sure that there were no rebels and those who do not get the tickets will be adjusted in the government.
In a Congress proforma, it has invited applications of the ticket aspirants for the upcoming 2017 Assembly elections, Congress asked the applicants of the tickets to “take a pledge” that they will not contest elections on any assembly seat against Congress nominee if they are not “chosen”.
