Congress rebel Sukhjinder Raj Singh Lali to get assembly ticket from Majitha

Sukhjinder Raj Singh Lali , a rebel Congress candidate from Amritsar, who also contested from Majitha in the 2012 assembly elections. He is the first leader for the upcoming 2017 assembly elections leader had been given public assurance of ticket.

The ticket assurance from the same seat came at a Congress workers’ meeting which is held by the Amritsar zone incharges and Ravneet Singh Bittu and Shamsher Singh Dull, party MPs.

“You people need not worry. I will tell (PPCC chief) Captain Amarinder Singh that the name of Lali Majithia should be in the first list of Congress candidates to be declared for the 2017 assembly elections,” Bittu said in his address.

Punjab has been divided into 6 zones under a programme that is being run by Lal Singh, Punjab Pardesh Congress Committee senior vice-president in order to get the feedback from party workers to decide on candidates for the assembly elections.

At Majitha assembly constituency, it was the first zonal meeting, and in Amritsar zone it was third.

Bikram Singh Majithia, cabinet minister is the Shiromani Akali Dal, Badal’s MLA from Majitha.

Dullo is part of a five-member national Congress election committee and had postive feelings for Lali Majithia . Sukhjinder Randhawa , earlier incharge of Amritsar Rural Congress preferred Lali for party ticket . Gurjit Singh Aujla, District Congress Committee Amritsar rural president recommended Lali Mjithia’s name for the party ticket.

Referring to the denial of ticket to Lali in 2012, Aujla said, “Some mistakes were committed in the past. But we need to rectify those mistakes now. I will request Bittu and Dullo to convey the sentiments of ground-level Congress workers to the Congress high command.”

As an Independent, 2012 assembly elections were contested by Lali unsuccessfully.He secured 26,000 votes and Shalinderjit Singh Shelly secured 8000 votes.

In 2007, Lali had on Congress ticket contested unsuccessfully against Bikram Singh Majithia. He is also close to Captain Amarinder Singh.
