Gurdas Mann, Punjabi singer has been appointed as state icon for Punjab assembly election in 2017 by Election Commission of India.
As per the sources, Mann will encourage youth to register themselves as voters, to participate in voting and to think how they can strengthen the democracy.
Gurpreet Singh Ghuggi, a noted comedian and actor who joined Aam Aadmi Party has been replaced by Mann, before Ghuggi, Jaspal Bhatti famous actor and comedian was the state icon.
In January 2017, Punjab is going to elect a new government.Gurdass Mann’s appointment is seen as a set back of Shiromani Akali Dal(SAD). In Punjab, Gurdass Mann is strong critic of drug abuse and had supported the film Udta Punjab.
He prays for good days for Punjab. Parkash Singh Badal, Chief Minister had publically accused Mann for defaming Punjab on drug issue.
“We dont need certificate from Gurdas Mann”, Badal told media in Ropar.
It is assumed that Mann will participate actively in Election Comission’s awareness campaign and encourage the young voters to vote for a right party and save Punjab. Mann is famous in not only in Punjab but he has audience across the globe.
