Kamal Nath’s Appointment as In-charge Of Punjab Election Opens War Of Words

Kamal Nath’s Appointment as In-charge Of Punjab Election

Indian National Congress, “cannot seek recourse to Article 19” of the Indian Constitution by putting Kamal Nath in charge of Punjab and Haryana.

Kamal Nath replaced Shakeel Ahmed , Ghulam Nabi Azad replaced by Madhusudan Mistry as general secretary of Uttar Pradesh.

Sonia Gandhi’s move to appoint Nath, Nanavati Commission indicated Kamal Nath for his alleged involvement in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, as “Punjab minder” that immediately made Congress the easy target of Aam Admi Party and BJP, the other associates in the upcoming Punjab Assembly elections in 2017.

Kejriwal said that Amarinder Singh, Punjab Congress president has forgotten , the Nath’s alleged role in the Sikh genocide.

His party took up the cudgel, naming Nath as the man “who (in 1984) instructed policemen to join the attackers and fired several rounds at the historic Rakabganj gurdwara.”

As per AAP statement, by assigning the charge of Punjab elections to Kamal Nath shows,  Rahul Gandhi’s (Congress vice-president) insensitivity towards the Sikhs. It clearly proves that Congress is not capable to lead Punjab.

Congress high command’s decision seems to have affected the party. In Rajya sabha polls , some of Congress MLAs in Uttar Pradesh were involved in “cross-voting” , In Haryana, some while giving their votes had used the wrong kind of pen that had resulted in victory for Subhas Chandra, BJP-supported independent candidate.

Congress is loosing its vote share, appointment of Kamal Nath as general secretary of Punjab and Haryana is precisely the kind of message, it should not send . The appointment might help in wiping out “whatever anti-incumbency tailwind” , Congress have created from the controversy in Punjab over a film and drug abuse.
