Eying Punjab polls 2017, The BJP think tank is considering to hold a rally in the month of December in Punjab which is likely to he addressed by the current Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The idea is to hold the rally somewhere around mid-December just before the EC declares imposition of code of conduct in the state.
Up until now, the BJP has had a slightly quite run in terms of election preparations in the state. The party has been busy in getting its state hierarchy right before they jump right into the action. There has been several new appointments at various state and district levels in the BJP.
A senior state leader from the BJP stated that they are in talks with the top leadership in the center to take part in the campaign. BJP’s national President Amit Shah is all set to address a meeting of over 40,000 booth workers in the coming few weeks. Other senior leaders from the party are also expected to make appearances on various fronts during the latter stages of the elections.
The rallies that are currently in contention will be focused on scheduled casts, women’s wing and youth. We may get to see the Union minister Sushma Swaraj and former HRD Minister Smriti Irani leading the women’s wing rally. Anurag Thakur, who also happens to be the national head of the Yuva Morcha of the party may address the youth rally in Punjab for the upcoming elections.
According to senior party leader, The BJP is also planning to incorporate other big names like Vasundhara Raje, Chief Minister of Rajasthan and Arun Jaitley, Union Finance Minister in the rally lead by the Prime Minister. At present, the party is waiting for the declaration of election dates so that that PM could address the the rally before the code of conduct gets imposed.
State Secretary of the BJP, Vineet joshi denied the allegations of BJP being slow in their modus operandi and said the the party has been proactive in the state elections for a long time and have done several modifications in their organizational structure. He said that they are in full flow and vouched the “Tiranga Yatra” as a great success in the month of August.
Joshi Futher stated that Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) is supposed to be the dominating partner because they are a regional party and its a state election. If SAD is doing anything related to the Punjab polls that means we are also a part of it.
