Yogendra Yadav and Prashant Bhushan who were expelled from Aam Aadmi Party are considering to launch a new political party for 2017 political elections in Punjab and also ‘ may field candidates’ “at a time when Arvind Kejriwal is pulling out all stops to ensure victory in the state.”
The duo and their supporters formed a group known as ‘Swaraj Abhiyan’ after the expulsion from the Aam Aadmi Party and said that in Punjab assembly elections they are “seriously thinking”about contesting for elections.
“We intend to launch a political party soon, but no date has been fixed. But yes, we are seriously thinking about contesting Punjab polls,” said a senior Swaraj Abhiyan leader.
In Punjab, during the by poll assembly the party said that they will support the musician from Khadoor Sahib assembly, Bhai Baldeep Singh .
“Swaraj Abhiyan is currently a non-political organization and we don’t hope to launch the party by next month. Bhai Baldeep Singh will contest as an independent and will be backed by Swaraj Abhiyan. We will be putting all our weight behind him,” he said.
“Swaraj Abhiyan’s support is crucial for the polls.” said Baldeep Singh, who is a part of the organization of the national executive.
For Baldeep Singh, Yogendra Yadav and other Abhiyan leaders are expected to campaign.
Baldeep Singh had lost in 2014 Lok Sabha elections when he contested from Khadoor Sahib on AAP ticket.
Ramanjit Singh Sikki, Congress legislator resigned ‘ in protest against the sacrilege incidents in the state’ from the Assembly, the seat went vacant.
