For awareness campaign for the upcoming elections in Tamilnadu, Twitter popular social media platform will collaborate with Election Commission of India for the 100 percent voting on May 16.
Rajesh Lakhoni, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) with Raheel Khursheed, Head, News, Politics and Government at Twitter India had discussions.
Raheel Khursheed said that Election Commission “full might” be using Twitter as a platform for the initiatives for campaigning.
“We would like to be associated with Tamil Nadu CEO to help him maximize the impact TN100 per cent campaign,” he said.
He further added that till the day election day, it will be ensured by Twitter “full might of the twitter platform” to make sure that in Tamil Nadu it will reach as many people as it is possible.
In order to promote the campaign, many celebrities have signed up for and for the #TN100% campaign; Twitter have a vast variety of tools that can be used by Election Commission said by Rajesh Lakhoni.
Twitter had developed new tools for the campaign which includes uploading the videos that are related with election and People who are using the hashtag #TN100% will be send reminders in order to remind them for casting votes for the polling day said by the officials.
In 2011 Assembly polls and 2014 Lok Sabha elections after getting very low amount of “polling percentage in some booths” .Election Commission had taken up this campaign in order to get 100 percent voting this time.

During the time of elections, star power in Tamil Nadu can “swing” the share of votes. Since from legendary MGR,cinema and politics have been hand in hand. Since late 1960s, Tamil-film industry has been connected with film stars who ruled it.
For purpose of campaigning, it was very obvious and natural to take help of the film stars by Election Commission of India and Rajesh Lakhoni Chief Electoral Officer for Tamil Nadu assembly elections.
May 16 is the due date for the state elections. Election Commission wants the voters to visit and vote also it wants to highlight free and fair elections.
In an exclusive interview to First Post Chief Electoral Officer Rajesh Lakhoni said, “Movie stars and sports personalities have huge reach in Tamil Nadu. We decided to attract young voters on social media, by using memes and tweets themed around films and create awareness about casting one’s votes. The idea is first register as a voter and then come and vote.”
He further added that “Don’t sell your votes” will be asked to the voters via various celebrity video towards the final stages of election campaign. On various FM channels and various social media platforms videos will be uploaded. Since most of the political parties own TV channels so they have issues with TV. “The short videos of actor Surya’s dubmash and cricketer Ashwin, have already gone viral.”
Superstar Rajinikanth’s Muthu (1995) dialogues’s were synced by the Suriya,popular actor,he did a dubsmash video of him,he told the voters that they raise awareness, vote and for right reasons they should raise their voices.
During the press conferences and on the twitter, in the Indian team, Ravichandran Ashwin is one of the most outspoken person. As the test captain,Virat Kohli has taken over.Aswin asked his fans not to worry about this issue, as the selectors are doing their job instead he asked them to worry about the names for the upcoming elections.
An agency which on social media specialises in making awareness has been hired by the Lakhoni . From Tamil cinema “popular punch lines” are to be used for these videos that are used for creating awareness.
Actors Surya, Karthi and popular cricketer Ravichandran Ashwin, Dinesh Karthik and his wife squash champion Dipika Pallikal have been featured in the videos in order to create awareness.
Siddharth, Arya, Jiiva, RJ Balaji, Samantha, Shruthi Haasan and former cricketer and selector Krishnamachari Srikanth.have also agreed to do the video for 30 seconds.
