On request, Governor recommends early re-polling in 2 Tamil Nadu Constituencies

K Rosaiah, Tamil Nadu Governor had recommended the Election Commission to conduct polls to Aravakurichi and Thanjavur constituencies before June 1.

Election Commission had delayed the polls to June 13 in these two constituencies because evidence of bribery of voters was found.  Rs. 8 crore cash approximately was recovered from Aravakurichi constituency.

“Governor’s letter comes after AIADMK candidates from both constituencies sought his intervention to postpone the polls.”

DMK had accused Election Commission of favoring AIADMK.

AIADMK had won by winning 134 seats in the 234-member assembly elections. In 32 years, Jayallithaa is the first chief minister to get a second consecutive term.

DMK alliance had won 98 seats and have become the strongest opposition.
