In Tamil Nadu, polling for 232 Assembly seats have been started, which will decide the future of 3,700 candidates which includes J Jayalalithaa and DMK chief M Karunanidhi, polling started today at 7 am.
On around 65,000 odd polling booths, electronic voting machines have been opened for 5.50 crores voters in order to cast their votes.
In order to ensure that the elections are conducted peacefully, around 1 lakh security personnel have been deployed.

Across 32 districts, Tamil Nadu has only 234 seats but the polling of only 232 seats are going to take place as the Election Commission has postponed it for 23rd May in Aravakurichi and Thanjavur areas because of the complains that voters were being bribed.
Apart from Jayalalithaa whose contesting from RK Nagar and Karunanidhi whose contesting from Thiruvarur. There are other leaders like Vijayakant, DMDK founder; Anbumani Ramadoss, PMK founder; MK Stalin of DMK and H Raja and Tamilisai Sounderrajan of the BJP are in the race.
1,11,958 of total police personnel, which includes 21,780 para military personnel will be included in the elections.
