Aam Aadmi Party Confirms Sidhhu's Entry Into The Party, May Offer A Big Role To Play

Sanjay Singh, AAP leader confirmed to CNN News 18 that Navjyot Singh Sidhu, former cricketer turned MP will be joining Aam Aadmi Party.

He welcomed Sidhu’s resignation from Rajya Sabha MP’s post. Sanjay Singh said that in Punjab, AAP will have benefits as Sidhu is a popular face in the state.

“Sidhu was upset with the corruption within the BJP,” Singh added and said the AAP will decide a role for Sidhu shortly.

In upper house of the parliament, BJP has sent his resignation to Hamid Ansari, vice-president , ahead of the upcoming 2017 assembly elections in the state.

Gurdeep Singh Sappal, OSD to the Hamid Ansari confirmed resignation of Sidhu in a tweet.

Sidhu reacted to this issue.

“In the war of right or wrong, you can’t afford to be neutral rather than being self-centered. “Punjab’s interest is paramount,” Sidhu told CNN-News18 after his resignation from the BJP.”With closure of every window leading to Punjab the purpose stands defeated, now a mere burden. I prefer not to carry it,” Sidhu added.

As per the Sources, Sidhu’s Navjyot Kaur Sidhu, Sidhu’s wife has also given her resignation from Chief Parliamentary Secretary, Health from Punjab post.

Sidhu’s resignation however came as a big shock to BJP which is in alliance with Shiromani Akali Dal in Punjab.

As per the sources, BJP had no “information or indication” that Sidhu will take such step.

Sidhu, former cricketer was nominated under quota of the distinguished personalities, resigned from the upper house in just 80 days after taking oath on April 28, 2016.

From Amritsar, Sidhu was elected to Lok Sabha twice between the time period of 2004 and 2014. He had to give up his seat for Arun Jaitley, senior party leader, who contested and lost to Amarinder Singh.
