BJP’s national conclave on 12th June , started discussing plan for the upcoming elections in 5 states, but main focus remains on Uttar Pradesh
PM Modi, focusing on Uttar Pradesh , had celebrated the government of BJP’s 2 years rule in Saharanpur. ‘Stand-Up India’ was launched in Noida, and ‘Ujjwala’ scheme in Ballia. Modi had asked BJP’s top leaders not to be “complacent and innovate for the new political situation” .
BJP needs to give a lot of efforts in order to win Uttar Pradesh. The vote bank is not very clear for BJP in the state. In order to break power of the top leaders in the U.P. like Mulayam Singh Yadav and Mayawati , “BJP needs to crack its caste matrix”.
In 2014, BJP succeeded supposedly got votes due to riots in Muzaffarnagar and image of the Modi .

After losing in Bihar , BJP will have to see if ‘Modi Magic’ will work and whether to declare a chief ministerial candidate or not. In Assam, BJP won after declaring Sarbananda Sonowal as its CM candidate.
However, choosing a candidate in UP will be not easy , as a leader has to be a caste balancing act. BJP does not have a strong Backward, Dalit or Upper Caste face. The only choice for CM candidate is Rajnath Singh and has refused to take up the challenge. Varun Gandhi and Smriti Irani are the other options .
Hoardings projecting Varun Gandhi in U.P.have been put up by the supporters of the BJP especially due to the buzz that the Congress may favor a Gandhi.
BJP has refused any official hoardings. Siddharth Nath , BJP National Secretary Singh said,” Hoarding and posters are not barometers of popularity.”
Prasad said that such decisions are not taken at meets like the national executive.
In BJP, a sense of urgency nowdays as the elections in U.P. are just 8 months away. Top leaders are ensuring that the main focus of the party remains on U.P. and its cadres remain active.
