In Uttar Pradesh, Congress, announced its first political programme, a three-day bus journey, that will cover major towns of the communally sensitive Western area of the state.
On July 23, Sonia Gandhi, Party president and Rahul Gandhi, Vice-president will “flag off” the journey from Delhi. Ghulam Nabi Azad, Sheila Dikshit, Raj Babbar, Sanjay Singh and Pramod Tiwari, top leaders are set to address gatherings en route to Kanpur.
In Western UP, the journey will cover the towns of Meerut, Moradabad and Bareilly, where BJP has been “raking the issue of exodus of Hindus from Kairana.”
The leaders of the Congress will visit Ghaziabad and Hapur in Meerut division, Amroha, Moradabad and Rampur in Moradabad division; Bareilly and Shahjahanpur in Bareilly division apart from Hardoi, Kannauj and Kanpur.
“We will reach every voter at least four times until the next year’s elections. We will form a government with an absolute majority and are targetting 200 seats,” said Sanjay Singh, campaign committee chief of the Congress for the UP polls. The UP Assembly has 403 members, including 23 of the Congress.
Sheila Dikshit, as Congress CM Face in UP, will “harp” on lack of development in 27 years, it was out of power during this period. “27 saal, UP badhaal” is the Congress’s slogan in UP, with Sheila Dikshit is thinking of selling “ Delhi development dream” here. However, the slogan shows Congress’s wish to go it alone, even when its options of alliance are open.
Even though UP’s Congress general secretary, Azad, said repeatedly that Congress will fight in the state on its own strength, he has never closed his options.
Congress’ aggressive support for Mayawati, BSP chief after she faced a sexist comment from a BJP leader. Azad and Ahmad Patel, Sonia Gandhi’s political secretary, supports Mayawati. In the Rajya Sabha, Patel expressed shock , over the abusive language use against Mayawati.
Congress walked out in the Lok Sabha, on the issue after chief “ Jyotir aditya Scindia raised it in the zero hour”. BSP feels Mayawati’s insult will secure majority of Dalits for her support.
In UP, Congress had appointed campaign in charges for all 18 divisions and had announced plans of a party convention in July 29 in Lucknow. Rahul Gandhi will address the campaign.
