Sheila Dikshit, may have finally bowed to Congress wishes and can be named as the chief minister face of Uttar Pradesh by the Congress.
According to the Sources, Congress is also likely to announce that the campaign for Uttar Pradesh will include Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in a lead role, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi are on the top positions of the Congress.
In the last elections, Priyanka Gandhi had campaigned for her family in their constituencies of Raebareli and Amethi. She is expected this time to lead rallies across Uttar Pradesh, for the upcoming elections in Uttar Pradesh.
Before Arvind Kejriwal, ousted Sheila Dikshit in December2013, she served three times as chief minister of Delhi.
Prashant Kishor, ace strategist considered a huge part of Modi’s victory in the general elections, has taken up Congress this time as a client and declared two months ago that he wanted a Brahmin face,an outsider for chief ministerial candidate.
It was an estimated strategy and is designed in order to win back the Congress’ voter base in Uttar Pradesh. Kishor also hopes to gain voter base for the party from Muslims,non-Dalit and other backward classes (OBCs). Withthose sections, Kishor has estimated that Congress can win 27-28 per cent of the vote share, which is required to win.
Uttar Pradesh’s results will be used to deduce the outcome of the 2019 national election.
During Priyanka Gandhi’s last campaign in Uttar Pradesh, she asked the voters to take revenge from BJP as the party alleged Robert Vadra (her husband), a controversial entrepreneur, of corruption.
In Haryana, Vadra is being investigated for a land deal, when Congress was in power. SN Dhingra, a retired judge, had asked more time to collect evidence in the inquiry, which includes Vadra’s purchase of a plot in Gurgaon and its sale three months later for huge gain.
Congress and Vadra have denied all allegations.
According to BJP,Priyanka Gandhi’s frontline position for Uttar Pradesh is evidence that Rahul Gandhi, her brother “is being acknowledged within the Congress as failing to deliver”. In 2014, Rahul Gandhi, had led the campaign which was Congress’s worst-ever result and since then, Congress has been voted out in a series of states.
