Narendra Modi’s cabinet is going to get reshuffled and is expected to include in his party the BJP’s political strategy in U.P, in the state, where assembly elections are going to take place in early 2017.
It is expected that few new ministers are going to take oath in Rashtrapati Bhavan and has been informed by the government. As per the sources at least 2 more faces from UP might join the Council of ministers.
There is talk of one of the new entrants taking over the information and broadcasting ministry. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley currently has additional charge of the ministry. Sources close to Mr Jaitley say “it was always an additional portfolio.”
Anupriya Patel, Lok Sabha MP from the BJP’s UP ally Apna Dal, and rumors are that she will be made a minister, was among the people who had met Amit shah, BJP chief in the capital.
Purushottam Rupala, a Rajya Sabha member of the BJP from Gujarat; Mansukhbhai Mandavia, a BJP member of the Rajya Sabha from Gujarat and Arjun Ram Meghawal from Rajasthan are among the ones, who are most likely can be added to Modi’s council and met Shah.SS Ahluwali, a BJP MP from Darjeeling, and Ramdas Athawale, a BJP ally from Maharashtra, also visited Amit Shah.
According to the sources,Shah probably is going to announce a new team of party office-bearers and small changes are also expected in the organizational structure.
Mahendra Pandey and Shiv Pratap Shukla, both BJP Lok Sabha members names have been brought by the BJP to the Rajya Sabha from UP in last month’s election.Both of them are Brahmins, a big vote bank in U.P, all parties are trying to woo, for the upcoming elections in U.P.
According to the sources, Ajay Tamta, BJP Lok Sabha member from Uttarakhand and Anil Desai of the BJP’s ally the Shiv Sena, can also be made ministers.
In few portfolios, changes are expected, but according to the sources, there may be no changes in Home, Finance, Defence and External Affairs.Ministers like Piyush Goel, Power Minister may be in for a promotion.
Nihal Chand,who was named in a rape case, his name will be dropped as per unconfirmed reports.
Modi had discussions with Amit Shah, BJP president over the last month and to finalize changes in the cabinet. Both the leaders had met for over four hours and had discussed changes in the cabinet and the BJP’s organizational structure.
Currently, at the Centre there are 66 ministers , which also includes Modi. The Constitution allows 82 and Modi has to appoint a new Sports Minister with Sarbananda Sonowal moving to Assam as Chief Minister.
