Only after two months of canceling the merger, Samajwadi Party seems all set to join Quami Ekta Dal lead by Mukhtar Ansari, gangster-turned-politician (QED) ahead of 2017 UP Assembly polls.
“Netaji (Mulayam Singh Yadav) has agreed to QED’s merger with SP. A formal announcement regarding this can be expected soon,” said a senior party leader privy to the development.
Rumors of QED’s collaboration with SP in the near future gained momentum . When SP supremo backed his brother and cabinet minister Shivpal Yadav at the flag hoisting of Independence Day.
A fight within the Yadav family on the issue of merger came to light when Shivpal announced the merger in June 21.
However, a meeting of SP parliamentary board was suddenly called off merger on June 25. As Mulayam Singh Yadav gave in to pressure from Akhilesh Yadav who wanted SP to stay away from Mukhtar, who is in jail facing serious criminal cases.
Shivpal had announced the collaboration when Akhilesh was away from Lucknow and the top leaders of the party were not on the same page.
QED had influence in eastern parts of Uttar Pradesh. The party has two MLAs Mukhtar , mafia don and Sigbatullaha Ansari his brother. Their brother Afzal is the party president.
Shivpal has threatened to resign from the party. He also made criticism of the Uttar Pradesh government. However, Mulayam Singh Yadav came out in support of Shivpal. He said if he left the Samajwadi Party, it will get divided. As per the party insiders, Mulayam has given permission to Shivpal to carry on with the collaboration.
