Among the buzz within a section of Congress for Priyanka Gandhi to take an active political role.
“No individual has a magic wand to revive the party and a team effort is the only way forward” said Jairam Ramesh.
He added that he have always believed Congress’ revival lies not in one individual but in a collective entity. He said when when he was asked that if Priyanka Gandhi should campaign largely in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls or 2019 Lok Sabha poll.
“No individual has a magic wand. The magic wand lies in a collective entity called the Congress party. Each of us has a responsibility to contribute to the revival. We cannot sit back and say: ‘A’ will do this, ‘B’ will do this and ‘C’ will do this. I think that era is over,” the leader told PTI.
When he was asked about “delay” in Rahul Gandhi taking over as the president of Congress is hurting Congress prospects, Ramesh said that he thinks, Rahul Gandhi’s taking over is an issue of last mile right now. He thinks it’s “only a matter of time.” He cannot comment on the “time- frame”, but he is very sure that it’s going to “happen sooner rather than later.”
He further added that Congress has taken “the right steps” vis-a-vis Uttar Pradesh elections. For Congress to announce Sheila Dikshit as chief ministerial candidate, almost eight months before the elections is not usual. But he thinks they are learning from there own experience.
