Priyanka Gandhi May Campaign for Congress In UP 2017

Prashant Kishor, poll strategist and the local leaders are continuously speaking about the need to have a chief ministerial candidate for the upcoming 2017 Assembly elections.

Congress top leaders are thinking of declaring a strong election campaign committee, that can include Priyanka Gandhi.

According to the sources, it was recommended that Sheila Dikshit, former Delhi chief minister be portrayed as the CM Candidate as her in-laws are from UP. Rethinking is done in order to decide whether Congress should actually project a candidate like this.

Satyadev Tripathi, chairman of UP Congress communication department said: that decision has not been taken yet but the simple fact is that Congress workers wants strong faces, that can be part of the election campaign committee. Across U.P, there is a demand growing for Priyanka Gandhi to campaign but all these decisions are to be taken by Congress’s high-command.

According to the Sources, besides of focusing on just one name, the election committee is probably going to include all leaders that the Congress wants to portray in the elections.

Congress had made Salman Khurshid, Union law minister before 2012 state elections, the chairman of the UP manifesto committee and Sriprakash Jaiswal, Union coal minister the election committee head. Raj Babbar,M.P, had set up another committee on media campaign.

Rahul Gandhi was the face of the party in 2012 elections. In over 100 constituencies, he had campaigned. But with less support of the organization , campaign was not very successful. Therefore, Rahul Gandhi was blamed. But this time, Congress seems to be more careful . Even before launching its campaign, Party is busy preparing a cadre base in every constituency. It also wants to bring senior leaders from different castes to the “forefront” like P L Punia, Sanjay Sinh, Raj Babbar, Pramood Tiwari, R P N Singh, Nirmal Khatri, state president and also former state chiefs.
