Mayawati's close aide RK Chaudhary quits BSP, accused Maya of ticket auctioning

BSP’s second set back in weeks, Mayawati’s once most trusted lieutenant and former minister RK Chaudhary had left the party ,accusing Mayawati of “auctioning” tickets for Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh. BSP had underplayed Chaudhary’s resignation, stating that it will have no impact on the party.

“At election time, tickets are allotted to the person who pays the highest amount,” he alleged at a hurriedly convened press conference to announce his resignation.

He also added that since the death of Kanshi Ram, party founder, there has been change in Mayawati’s style of work and that skilled leaders, who functioned with “missionary zeal” were not given the right amount of importance.

Swami Prasad Maurya,Senior BSP leader had quit BSP on June 22, stating that he felt “suffocated” and accused Mayawati, party chief of “auctioning” tickets for the elections. After Chaudhary’s announcement, Ram Achal Rajbhar, state BSP chief said that Chaudhary’s resignation will have no impact so far on BSP and described him as “selfish“.

“There is no place for selfish people in BSP Chaudhary was expelled earlier too for his selfish motives…his departure had no effect earlier and will not have any impact this time too,” he said.

Chaudhary said that under one banner Kanshi Ram had united different castes and evolved them into a group that could not be “sold” and due to his concerted efforts, a vote bank was created in all Assembly constituencies in UP.

He added after Kanshi Ram, Mayawati started looking towards this non- saleable votebank, began selling tickets and BSP became a ‘mandi’ (wholesale market) for selling the ticket. Under these kind of circumstances, BSP is no longer the mission of social change, he said in hard-hitting remarks.
